Building a Good Foundation of Trust

Now that we have established that to build a formidable high performing team, we need to build a good foundation of trust. How do we do this?



Showing genuine empathy is a good start, by demonstrating you care about your team and their success. It is important you are authentic (be yourself!) and show your vulnerability.



1. Listen Carefully: Pay attention to what your team members say and how they feel.



2. Try to Understand: Imagine yourself in their situation to see things from their perspective.



3. Acknowledge Feelings: Let them know you understand how they feel.



4. Offer Help: Be there to support them when they need it.



5. Lead by Example: Show empathy in your actions, so others will follow.



6. Adapt Your Approach: Communicate in a way that works best for each person. This is where the Insights Discovery colour energies can be very effective in understanding each other’s preferred communication style.



7. Be Open: Share your own experiences to create a trusting environment.



Always try to make a personal connection with your team members, by showing genuine interests outside of work - it's hard not to be authentic when this happens!
