Ignite Challenge #2: Ranking Across Silos

Ignite Challenge #2 Breaking down Silos When we brief participants ahead of an Ignite, we explain that our goal is to have a prioritised list of work across the domain (or division) It is at that point we get the standard response: “That will be a waste of time. I have my budget and my resources, which, as it happens, have technical skills specific to my team. So why on earth should I prioritise my work with that of another area when they are not related? Our goal is to get them, as leaders, to step up out of their silo and work together as a team with their leadership peers and collectively agree on what is important to make the domain and the overall organisation succeed. They could be working on lower priority initiatives, and doing an awesome job, however, if what the collective leadership have agreed is the most critical work is running off the rails, then the credibility of the whole team is at risk regardless of how well a silo is performing. In some cases, they cannot be convinced, and they will go through the motions but still do their own thing, however, I am happy to say that the majority eventually get the message, and magic happens. I am reminded of a famous quote by Patrick Lencioni “If you could get all the people in an organisation rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time.” #200Ignites AdaptivOrg + Seisma SEISMA GROUP Follow me on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gz8dkuhU
