Friday Queen Fact time - worst Queen song ever?
Brian May released the solo track "Too Much Love Will Kill You" on his album Back To The Light in 1991. The song was about his marriage break-up at the time, and you can clearly hear the pain in Brian's voice.
It was originally recorded as a Queen track in 1989 for The Miracle album, but did not make the cut following the bands decision that all songs on the album would be written by the group as opposed to individuals.
After Freddie Mercury died in 1991, the song was reworked with Freddie's original vocals and released on the Queen album Made in Heaven in 1995.
It is "claimed" Queens version of the song is the definitive version, after being awarded "Best Song Musically and Lyrically" at the 1996 Novello Awards.
Personally, I despise it. I think it is the worst Queen song ever (although many will disagree).
Why? With Freddie singing it, it brings on a whole new meaning, like a penance for his promiscuous behaviour that ultimately caused his death.
I cringe when I listen to it.
Listen to both versions, and let me know what you think.
